Vrushabh Galatgekar What is your biggest “only in China” moment? Recently I was traveling to Dadar and I boarded a Andheri To Churchgate Fast Train. For those of you who don't know, Dadar is one of the busiest railway stations in Mumbai, India. Actually it's difficult to describe how crowded Mumbai train platforms can get. These images might give you some idea
9d9e0d8fgy1fwai055qsrj20gq09wami.jpg
Being a Mumbai city native since birth, I'm used to this. But what's even worse is how these trains run. Whoever designed the train coaches has no idea about the meaning of word “Comfort”. Sitting on a tough plastic seat for 1 hour in a train which is already carrying more passengers than it's capacity is like a nightmare. And on top of that, the tracks are so poorly calibrated that at some point you feel like you are traveling on a boat.
Coming back to that day, I somehow got a seat and I was browsing YouTube when I came across video that changed my mind about how Trains should be. At first I saw a coin and thought there's nothing so special here… 一开始我看到一枚硬币,觉得也没什么特别的…… 9d9e0d8fgy1fwai03mb0wj20gq09fgp1.jpg

And then I saw that there are more objects placed right beside that coin… 然后我看到有更多的东西放在硬币旁边…… 9d9e0d8fgy1fwai035cn7j20gq09fjvq.jpg

At first I thought these objects were glued there but to my surprise I was wrong this time. This objects were placed on a window pane of the train which was traveling at the speed of 350 Km Per Hour (217 Miles Per Hour). The train and the whole tracks were designed so precisely that these objects were remained there for more than 20 mins. Definitely I was delighted by what humans have achieved but coming across this video while being inside a Mumbai Local train hurt me more than anything. This can happen only in China! Mithun Bhattacharja, Technician While i was passing time at afternoon in my college campus, one crazy bike rider was riding his bike for climbing stair. I was totally surprised by seeing this Pj Feldsine I was in China about 15 years ago where I ran into a group of middle school kids on a class field trip. Everyone began pointing at me and telling me I looked just like Tom Cruise (note: I don’t look anything like him) and every single one of the kids wanted to have a picture taken with me along with some of the adults. It was surreal. I’ve been to a lot of counties in Asia before… Korea, Hong Kong, Laos, Thailand, Taiwan, Cambodia, etc… Never before have I been treated like a celebrity like this just for being white. Nathan Prisco, PhD candidate from University of California, Santa Barbara
Extreme (but competitive) politeness. When I held the door open for people at my busy office building during the morning rush, I would create a traffic backlog because they would insist that I enter the building first.
Jim Alpers China is the only place where I have seen an “Earthquake” warning light in an elevator. 9d9e0d8fgy1fwb29d9tlmj20gq0mbqdu.jpg   Parker Jensen When I was in the men’s only spa and a female janitor came in, cleaned up, and brought me some water while I was sitting with my feet in a jacuzzi completely nude. Didn’t phase her at all in fact we had a (limited) conversation while I drank it. Chinese women are curious and not at all embarrassed about it. Frederick Owusu, studied at Teesside University Now here I am in Guangzhou around July 2014. My first time in China and I had always been in Taxis. One time I board a bus for about 15 minutes with my backpack which had my Samsung Note 10.1 in it. I felt some movement yet I ignored thinking we were all saints in the bus. At a point the movements became unbearable and decided to check my bag. To my surprise the Note 10.1 was gone and seemed the guy who dropped at the previous bus stop had removed it. The police asked me to write my statement and cautioned me to be vigilant the next time. Warren Hyde, I used to be immortal. What is your biggest “only in China” moment? I lived in China for nine months, back in 2009–2010. I lived a couple of blocks from where I worked, on the 24th floor of an office building. As a foreigner, I got used to the stares pretty quick. Nobody is ashamed to stare at you, even when you look back at them. Girls get a little embarrassed to talk to you, I guess as there is still a class difference that foreigners automatically have. So when you step into an elevator which has mirrored walls, and you tower head and shoulders above everyone else, and look different… thats something thats hard to get used to. All eyes are on you and you have nowhere to look. At least on the subway there are windows and advertising. Tom O'Connor, Lived in China for 2 years. Although I also found the pajamas interesting in Shanghai, the funniest to me was the exchanging of grandchildren’s pictures in People’s Park, trying to arrange a marriage. That’s pretty strange to an American. Solomon Okoronkwo Chinese men don't wear singlets.
